Gardaí in Carlow are urging the public to photograph and record serial numbers of valuable property to aid in recovering stolen items.
Often, recovered property lacks serial numbers or identification, making it difficult to return to its rightful owner.
To assist with this, Gardaí have launched a free property app, available on both iTunes and Google stores.
Speaking to KCLR News, Sgt. John Duffy discussed the new Garda Property App, which allows users to log property, and simplify returns.
Sgt. Duffy encouraged people to download the app.
“Its a free app for people to download, and it has the ability for people to be able to photograph, and store all your photographs of your property, and serial numbers that may be on your property on your phone.”
He continued by saying that “It isn’t shared directly with the Gardaí, it is held on your phone itself, but doesn’t go to the Gardaí directly, it just means that if you have something taken from you that you have those serial numbers to hand, or at least a photograph of it, so if we do happen to recover it in time, its much easier to return back to you, to ensure that we get your valuable property back.”
