Gardai are warning locals again to always ask for identification from callers to your door.

Its after an elderly woman was targetted in Carlow yesterday by a man posing as a council worker asking to check the water.

A sum of money was subsequently stolen from the ladys home.

If you saw a dark grey car in the area around Kevin Barry Avenue or Castlewood Gardens at lunchtime yesterday or a man carrying a folder you’re asked to get in touch with the Gardai in Carlow.

In the meantime Gardai are appealing to people not to allow any strangers into your home unless you are 100 percent certain they are who they say they are.

If you have any suspicions you should contact your local station.
