Homeowners in Carlow and Kilkenny are being urged to check their internal plumping for lead pipes.
The call comes from Irish water over concerns that lead pipes pose a serious health risk.
This warning is for anyone in Carlow and Kilkenny whose houses were built before 1980.
The advice from Irish Water is to check your internal plumping for lead pipes.
Public drinking water supplies are lead free according to Irish Water, but lead can dissolve in drinking water from internal pipes which are common in older homes and buildings.
The Utility are predicting that approximately 180,000 homes in Ireland and hundreds of commercial buildings still have internal lead plumping.
Irish Water have issued this warning to coinside with their 8 week period of public consultation on its draft ‘Lead in Drinking Water Mitigation Plan’ which runs until the 21st of September.
