How we write certain phrases is to become a thing of the past…
Singing off on emails with ‘Yours sincerely’ will die out in the next ten years, according to new research.
A survey of 2,000 people by Barclays predicts language will become less formal due to instant messaging.
Writing ‘Dear’ at the start of an email will also soon become a thing of the past, as 35 per cent said it was ‘old fashioned’ and 9 per cent say it’s ‘boring’.
‘Kind regards’ or ‘Many thanks’ are predicted to be on the way out, with younger workers preferring ‘cheers’, ‘speak soon’ or ‘TY’ – an abbreviation of thank you.
Other phrases set to die out include ‘to whom it may concern’, and ‘with compliments’.
