Kilkenny jockey Donagh Meyler has described his Irish Grand National win as “magic” after guiding Soldier in Milan to victory at Fairyhouse Racecourse.
The horse is trained by Emmet Mullins of Carlow, making it a special result for the local connections.
Speaking after the race, Meyler said everything fell into place from an early stage.
“Magic, unreal — I don’t know what to say,” he said.
“He was good and sharp out of the gate, got a good few jumps early on. He just got into a lovely rhythm and travelled so sweet throughout the race — made it look easy I suppose.
There was a lot of ups and downs, but thank God we topped it off with this — it’s just magic.”
