John McGuinness criticised for not disclosing meeting with former Garda Commissioner

John McGuiness has been forced to defend his decision NOT to reveal details of a meeting with the former Garda Commissioner.

The Kilkenny TD and former head of the public accounts committee says he met Martin Callinan in 2014, just before the garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe attended a hearing at the committee.

He says Martin Callinan told him that Maurice McCabe was “not to be trusted” – but did not reveal the meeting until last week.

Sinn Féin says the meeting should have been revealed sooner – and should have been revealed to the O’Higgins Commission.
