Could The Breadwinner become the Oscar winner?

‘The Breadwinner’, which had it’s Kilkenny premiere this day last week, tells the story of a young Afghan girl who has to disguise herself as a boy in order to provide for her family.

The Carlow girl’s film ‘Lady Bird’ is a coming-of-age story set in Sacramento, which has claimed the top spot for best reviewed movie ever on movie site ‘Rotten Tomatoes’.
Fingers and toes across Carlow and Kilkenny are firmly crossed that one of the coveted golden statuettes will be heading Nore-side or Barrow-side tomorrow.
The other Irish nominees include Martin McDonagh for directing ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’, while Irish Costume designer Consolata Boyle is once again nominated.
