Plans to bring another very high profile visitor to Kilkenny are being explored!
Just a week after the Royal couple visited the city Councillor Joe Malone has called for an invitation to be extended to Pope Francis.
The head of the Catholic Church is due to visit Ireland in August of next year and Councillor Malone says he should be invited to Kilkenny, especially seeing as our newest bridge is also named after St Francis.
He told KCLR News, that controversy surrounding the structure shouldn’t stop this from happening:
“Ah no, it’s there now whether we like it or not, whether we were for it or against it. It’s just a nice gesture, I think on behalf of the Kilkenny County Council to invite the Pontiff here next year.
“You know, and I think it’d be a great boost for the city and county if it was to happen. I know he’s going to Dublin… but if he came down in his helicopter there, and went around Kilkenny in his Pope-mobile, it’d be great to see him in the city.”
