Kilkenny councillor urging communities along motorway to apply for new CCTV funding

CCTV near motorway slipways in Kilkenny and Carlow could soon become a reality.

Kilkenny Councillor David Fitzgerald is encouraging community groups to apply for funding from the Department of Justice for up to 60% of the cost of security cameras, in a bid to tackle travelling criminals.

He says many rural communities along the M8 and the M9 are being repeatedly hit by criminals from other counties using the motorway.

Speaking to KCLR News, Councillor Fitzgerald says the cameras needed to tackle this will be more expensive than normal ones.
