The project, which is still in it’s early stages of development aims to build five new training pitches within the next five years.
Speaking to the KCLR Hurling podcast, PJ Kenny, Chairperson of Kilkenny County Board, highlighted the shortage of training facilities in the county, stressing the need for additional pitches to accommodate the growing demands of Kilkenny teams across all codes.
“We have teams training outside the county and we are depending on clubs, it’s putting pressure on clubs as well. It’s something that was identified and is badly needed”
He also emphasized the importance of the project for up-and-coming players, stating that the investment is crucial for the long-term success of Gaelic Games in Kilkenny.
“It’s for future generations going forward as well. Integration is coming, we have to plan for this now we can’t just wait until 3 years down the line. We have to plan now”.
PJ Kenny highlighted the importance of public support in funding these new training facilities, adding that sponsorships and grants would provide additional financial backing.
“We’re going to need the support of the public, we’re not planning on levying clubs and there will be other fundraisers. It’ll all be volunteer-driven as well, we’ll have the right people in there”.
