A new service supporting the needs of our elderly community has been launched at Loughboy Library in Kilkenny City.
Providing practical support for a range of daily domestic activities, the Handy Helps initiative features a range of items, including a car assist portable mobility aid, a plastic shoe horn and an object locator key finder, all designed to make life a little easier.
Loughboy Librarian Alan Dunne, who is also Kilkenny County Council’s Age Friendly Co-ordinator, told KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes about the three themed packs that feature’, noting; “There’s a culinary aids pack, a social aids pack and mobility aids pack and we also have a reacher which helps people to pick up items without having to bend over and we decided then to roll it out in four branches initially; Loughboy Library, Mayfair Library, Thomastown and Castlecomer libraries, each pack can be borrowed as one item so a person gets to take home a pack for eight weeks and try out all the different items in that pack, older members of our community can really benefit from the opportunity to get to try out these products from their local library”.
Stay tuned for more from that launch.
