A Kilkenny mother, who’s battling what she’s been told is terminal cancer, says she’s been given some very positive news this week.
Vicky Phelan first spoke to KCLR a number of weeks ago when she had just started her fundraiser to pay for potentially life-saving cancer treatment abroad.
The 43-year-old mother of two says now the latest tests she’s had done show her tumour will react to the immunotherapy drug she’s hoping to take.
She told KCLR News, the next step now is to get it from MSD with the hopes that it will halt the spread of her cancer before she gets formally accepted for a clinical trial in the US.
More than 2,500 people have pledged nearly €140,000 between them on her GoFundMe page that she set up just over a month ago.
Vicky says the money raised so far will cover most of the cost of the trial, but it will only cover about half the cost of her back-up trial.
She says she’ll find out which one she’s elligible for in the next few days.
