Despite 1-8 from TJ Reid and 0-7 each from Seamus Callinan and John O Dwyer the teams could not be separated after a pulsating 70 minutes as it ended 3-22 to 1-28 in Croke park
Tipperary led at the break by 1-13 to 1-11 after Bonner Maher’s opener was cancelled out by a Ritchie Power strike
TJ Reid helped restore Kilkenny’s lead at the start of the second half with a piledriver to the Tipp net and Richie Power scored a third to give the Leinster champions the advantage heading into the final minutes before a late resurgence from the Munster side set up another All Ireland Final date
