The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run is an international torch relay for Peace which has been visiting Ireland for over 25 years. This years route will take
the running team a total distance of 400km from Cork to Belfast and will take place from April 2nd to 6th. On the 3rd April, the Run visits Kilkenny for the second time and visits schools in Kilkenny. The International Peace Run Team and local coordinators are all volunteers and have received great support and help in arranging the visit from the community in Kilkenny.
Kilkenny Itinerary;
1) 10.30am – Church Hill National School, Cuffsegrange
2) 11.30am – St Aidan’s National School, Kilmanagh
3) 12.40pm – Lunch courtesy of Kilkenny County Council
4) 1.30pm – Tour Kilkenny Castle courtesy OPW / Kilkenny Castle
5) 2.30pm – Reception at Sanctuary, Thomastown.
As well as visiting Kilkenny, receptions will also be held by Lord Mayors in Dublin and Cork. Along the way, the Peace Run team will visit schools and youth organisations to share inspiration for creating a more harmonious world; a New World of Peace. Runners will offer educational presentations that promote good will, respect and oneness amongst all people. For nearly 40 years, the Peace Run has traversed over 160 nations on all 7 continents as a symbol of humanity’s universal aspiration for a more peaceful world. Since the inaugural Run in 1987, more than 7-million people have participated. Commendations have come from many world figures including Pope Francis, Pope John Paul II, President Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II, Saint Mother Teresa, Muhammad Ali, state governors, city mayors and celebrities around the world. In an effort to support the environment, the Peace Run will plant and dedicate trees
for peace in many of the cities along the route. Other initiatives include offering the Torch-Bearer Award to local citizens who have contributed to the well-being of their community
