A new Whiskey tourism initiative is being launched in Kilkenny next week.
The Kilkenny Whiskey Guild is being unveiled which will see nine local bars taking part to educate people on the history of and to celebrate the drink.
Back in 1324 the bishop in St Canice’s wrote a manuscript called the Red book of Ossory which contained the first written mention of distillation in Ireland and contains a recipe for aqua vitae which went on to become whiskey
The bars taking part are Billy Byrne’s, Brewery Corner, Dylan Whiskey Bar, Hibernian hotel, Langton’s, Lanigan’s, the Left bank, Paris Texas, Matt the Miller’s and the Wine Centre.
