Tipperary manager Liam Cahill says he is still expecting a fierce contest when his side take on Kilkenny next weekend.
Tipperary’s victory over Waterford yesterday means Kilkenny can no longer be relegated from Allianz Hurling League Division 1A, regardless of the result when the sides meet in Semple Stadium on Saturday night.
Waterford have now been relegated to Division 1B following their 2–24 to 1–23 defeat to their Munster neighbours. The Déise had led by eight points during the game but were unable to hold on.
Despite relegation no longer being a factor for Kilkenny, Cahill believes the game in Thurles will still be a serious test for both teams.
“Kilkenny will be coming as they always do, with pep in their step. They will be the first to admit themselves they’ll have to correct a few areas that let them down against Galway.
It will be a usual intensive game in Thurles and it will be great preparation for both sides.”
With the championship now on the horizon, the clash in Thurles is expected to provide another valuable test for both counties as they continue their preparations.
