An untimely injury was what kept a record-setting local woman from fulfilling her Olympic dreams.
Marita Lanigan is today being inducted into the hall of fame at the University of Maryland in the United States.
She’s being added to the prestigous list for her achievements in sport while she studient there during the 1980s.
She now teaches at the Loreto Secondary School in Kilkenny and holds a shotput record since 1983.
Speaking to KCLR News, Marita says despite all the achievements she would love to have competed in the Olympics in 1984.
