A Kilkenny City landmark has received funding from the Government’s Cultural Capital Scheme, an initiative which focuses on enhancing the State’s existing stock of arts and culture centres.
The restored Rothe House and Garden on Parliament Street is the only 16th-century property of its kind still standing in Ireland and provides visitors with a unique window into Kilkenny’s merchant past.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Andrew McGuinness told KCLR News about the funding Rothe House Trust has been awarded.
“So €20,000 will be allocated to Rothe House and that’s for the continued preservation and maintenance of the historic building. And it’s testament to the great work that’s done in Rothe House by Valerie and her great team down there. I know they put a huge amount of work into maintaining it, promoting itand ensuring that it remains an integral part of the fabric of Kilkenny. Said Councillor McGuinness.
