Denis Hynes has confirmed he hopes to replace outgoing councillor Maurice Shortall on Kilkenny County Council.
The Labour member has already declared for the General Election but today says that he has indeed put his name forward following confirmation from Cllr Shortall that he’ll not be bidding to retain his seat in the next Local Election.
Nomination papers are due to party members in the next week with a selection convention due in mid February.
Mr Hynes has been telling KCLR News “Maurice is a wonderful councillor, a great friend & colleague of mine and while he will certainly be sadly missed I’d like to think he’ll still be there in the background working with us.”
He added “I’ve had conversations with Maurice Shortall & people around North Kilkenny & in my own village & townland and yes I will be looking for the nomination at the selection convention to put my name forward to represent the people that Maurice represented so well over the past 15 years.”
