Kilkenny’s brand new music festival, ‘Live at Castle Mills’, wrapped up along the Canal Walk last night.
Organised behind the scenes for two years by Willie Byrne and Kerbdog drummer Dara Butler, the event successfully transformed an overgrown field into a vibrant festival venue.
Music fans flocked to the site to catch stellar performances from global stars like Matt Berninger of The National alongside local favourites Engine Alley.
Organisers are now hoping the riverside site will become a permanent fixture on the local event calendar.Co-founder Dara Butler explains exactly how the vision for the festival came about.
“This all came about that there’s a, basically a bunch of guys that, that are, music fans, a kind of a collective. And during the COVID area, we used to kind of sneak down here for a few little, a few refreshments. So, and every time we came down to the venue, we just thought this place is stunning. And, what a place for a gig. We want to have a gig here. So, yeah, we’ve been tipping away for, for two years building it really, you know, behind the scenes.” said Dara.
