Local beef farmers have joined with thousands of others in Dublin today to call on the Minister for Agriculture to deal with a number of critical issues for the sector.
They’re holding a demonstration outside the Department of Agriculture, telling Simon Coveney that his Food Harvest 2020 plan is failing them and leaving them facing massive losses if beef prices are not restored.
The IFA says the Minister must reject the factory cuts and act immediately to address labelling and live export issues that are curtailing competition and the movement of stock to key markets.
Chairman of Carlow IFA Derek Deane spoke to KCLR news from Dublin saying their message for the Government was clear – ‘if the industry is not minded, a lot of people will lose their jobs and the industry will be lost forever.
