Hurricane Irma has claimed at least 14 lives and left a trail of destruction in the Caribbean.
It hit Turks and Caicos in the early hours and is expected to travel past the Bahamas and Cuba next.
Another storm – Jose – which has been upgraded to a category three – is also heading for the region.
A local couple holidaying in the Caribbean say they are in lock-down since Wednesday evening.
Kilkenny woman, Sandra Barry and her new husband Shane Rice from Carlow are on their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.
Speaking to KCLR News from the confines of their room, Sandra said some holidaymakers are trapped on the island, including some from Florida which is expected to be badly hit.
Her father in law John said its been a worrying time for them at home but the newly-weds have kept in regular contact with updates for their families.
