Residents in mid-Kilkenny are crying out for a new bus link between Kilkenny and Waterford City: that’s the view of County Councillor Joe Sheridan.
Cllr Sheridan believes a five-day service connecting both cities through Kilmacow, Ballyhale, Newmarket, Knoctopher and Stoneyford is justified.
The Kells based Fianna Fail representative said he believes there are clear grounds to develop such an additional rural transport link, telling KCLR News’ Dermot Keyes; “I think it’s crucially important and it’s not just getting people into Kilkenny, it’s actually connecting villages and that’s what we need because there’s so many people out there, you know, you’ve students, you’ve the elderly, people who don’t drive; if you have a bus service that does five return trips a day at least it gives options to people, and that’s what we need, we need Government to come up with a good, rural public transport plan and it has to be backed by multi-year funding to support that”.
He thinks an addition to the 891 Local Link service between Fiddown and Kilkenny is needed, saying; “It’s proven, this 891 bus is a fantastic service and it’s been well, well used, so its proof is in the pudding, it is working, it is certainly, certainly working; now it can be improved, even this 891 service the stops and that, certainly there’s room for improvement on it, but until such time I think until we get that additional bus I don’t think any change will be made to the current 891 bus”.
