A man continues to be questioned by Gardaí investigating the death of a woman in County Laois.
Emergency services were called to an incident at a home on Church Street, Portlaoise shortly after 12:30pm yesterday (Sunday, 5th July).
A woman aged in her fifties were pronounced dead at the scene with the State Pathologist notified – a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
A man aged in his seventies was arrested at the scene and has been detained at a station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A technical examination is to be carried out at the premises while investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 11am and 1pm yesterday to come forward, in particular those who may CCTV or dashcam footage – advice is to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
