Man arrested following seizure of guns and ammunition in county Kildare

A man’s been arrested in connection with the seizure of two guns and ammunition in county Kildare yesterday evening.

The discovery came after Gardaí intercepted a scrambler bike on the Royal Canal Way in Maynooth while on patrol as part of Operation Twin Tracks.

The rider, a man aged in his thirties, was arrested at the scene and has been detained at the Garda Station in county Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

What’s understood to be two semi-automatic pistols and 39 rounds of ammunition will undergo technical and ballistic examination.

A Garda spokesperson says; “Investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided in due course.”
