A man has died following an incident at a house in Carlow town last night.
Gardaí were called to the New Oak Estate shortly after 11:40pm – they discovered a 30-year-old man who was unresponsive and had serious injuries at a residential property.
Emergency services treated him at the scene before transferring him to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny where he was pronounced dead.
A woman was later arrested in the Carlow town area – she’s been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at at garda station in the county.
The local Coroner has been notified and the services of Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist requested. While a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Carlow Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family.
The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings from road users in the New Oak Estate and nearby areas around the time of the incident.
