Met Éireann has extended its snow-ice warning for 14 counties, including Carlow and Kilkenny.
The alert will be in place for both as well as Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Kildare, Dublin, Offaly and all of Munster, until six o’clock this evening.
A nationwide ice warning meanwhile is in place until nine o’clock tomorrow morning.
There’ll be accumulations of sleet and snow, poor visibility, and hazardous travelling conditions, with disruption to public transport expected.
Forecasting Services Manager at Met Eireann, Alan Hally, denies claims the forecaster wasn’t ready for snow.
This morning saw many along the Carlow / Wicklow border awaken to the white stuff.
