Nightly water restrictions have returned to North Kilkenny.
Uisce Éireann says the measure for the Castlecomer area takes effect from tonight (Thurs) and is in place from 9pm to 7am until further notice.
Areas affected are Clogh, Ardra, Massford, Moneenroe, Coolbawn, Castlecomer and surrounding areas.
Speaking about the restrictions, Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward said: “Due to a significant reduction in available raw water at the treatment plant, it is difficult to maintain reservoir levels. These levels are monitored daily, and the current restrictions are necessary to maintain a consistent daytime supply. We understand the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience.”
Uisce Éireann is advancing plans to address water supply challenges in Castlecomer through a proposed connection to the Kilkenny City (Troyswood) Water Resource Zone, providing a secure and sustainable long-term supply. The project is moving into its next phase, including engagement with affected landowners to commence this month followed by ground investigations, detailed design and applications for statutory approvals towards the end of 2026.
