A local Muslim leader has been reacting to disquiet at plans for a new purpose built mosque & associated services in Kilkenny.
For the past ten years many practicing the religion do so at a rented premises on the Freshford Road. Now a board of trustees has lodged a planning application with the County Council to develop a new mosque and cultural centre with other services, just off the Hebron Road in the city.
However there’s been some opposition to the location which would see the facility overseeing a Catholic graveyard with concerns of adding to traffic issues in the area & a call to prayer.
Kilkenny Imam, Ibrahim Ndure spoke on KCLR’s The Way It Is on Monday where he dispelled some of the claims surrounding the plans.
He told Sue Nunn people have every right to voice their opposition but said to peddle misinformation is also wrong.
Meanwhile there’s a public information evening planned for this Thursday about the plans.
It will take place in the O’ Loughlin Gaels GAA club from 6.30pm.
