National May maximum temperature record was broken by more than two degrees

The temperature record in May was broken at numerous locations by 2 degrees.

A station at Shannon Airport recorded a temperature of 30.6 degrees on Tuesday the 26th of the month.

Met Éireann’s provisional figures for last month show the temperature was above average everywhere at just over 12.5 degrees.

Sunshine was above average in the East but duller conditions were recorded in the South and West.

The East of the country also saw the driest conditions throughout the month of May.
