North Kilkenny mines have been sold

Galmoy Mines in North Kilkenny has been sold.
The mines had been owned by Lundin Mining who bought it back in 2005, but mining there stopped in 2012 with the closure completed in 2015.
The company have now confirmed to KCLR News that Tipperary-based AQS Environmental Solutions have bought it from them.
AQS Environmental Solutions provide composting services, drainage maintenance and industrial pipe and tank cleaning services and already have a base in Littleton in Tipperary.
Signage for AQS has now been put up outside the facility, replacing the old ‘Galmoy Mines’ sign.
The sale was completed on the 22nd of March.
The new owners of the site say they are confident their plans for the site will make a positive contribution to the local economy.
In a statement to KCLR News Managing Director Benny McCarthy said their plans for the North Kilkenny site are at an early stage of development.
But there’s been plenty of speculation locally that waste management is likely to be the business conducted there.
