KCLR hurling analyst Michael Walsh says Kilkenny must use this year’s disappointing championship campaign as a chance to reset and rebuild for the future.

The Cats’ defeat to Dublin at Parnell Park brought their season to an early end and sparked plenty of discussion around the direction of hurling in the county.

Speaking on the KCLR Hurling Podcast Analysis Edition, Walsh said while no one in Kilkenny ever wants to see the championship end this early, difficult seasons can sometimes force important change.

“Now is time for a reset, whatever way you decide to do that reset,” Walsh said.

“Whether that’s an audit situation, but it certainly needs a reset.”

Walsh believes the disappointment of this season could ultimately prove valuable if lessons are properly learned across the county.

“I actually think that losing can be a really good thing going forward, because it can nail things that need to be nailed going forward.”

Despite the frustration around the county at the moment, Walsh says Kilkenny still have the foundations to return quickly, pointing to how other traditional powers have bounced back from difficult periods.

“They are a county like Cork or Tipperary, that can come back quickly.”

The full discussion on Kilkenny’s championship exit, along with analysis of the wider issues facing the county, is available now on the latest edition of the KCLR Hurling Podcast.
