Oscar shortlist includes song sung by actress Saoirse Ronan who grew up in Carlow

The Academy Awards have announced their shortlists in ten categories with a song sung by an Irish actress among the contenders.

‘Winter Coat’ is an original composition which featured in historical war drama Blitz – Saoirse Ronan, who grew up in Ardattin, Co Carlow, stars in the film and sings the track which is in the running for Best Original Song in the 2025 Oscars which takes place on the 2nd of March.

It has competition from ‘Sick in the Head’ from ‘Kneecap’ with the music biopic also slated in the Best International Feature Film section.
