Parents who have children on the Paediatric Allergy Waiting list at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny have been told that the service has been lost.
The information is contained in a letter sent out by the hospital’s General Manager, Anne Slattery.
Over the past three years, St Luke’s Hospital was providing a local allergy service for pediatrics.
Parents of children using the service have now been told that it will no longer be provided at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.
In a letter seen by KCLR News, General Manager, Anne Slattery, outlines that the temporary consultant Pediatrician with a specialist interest in allergies has left the hospital.
The letter states that the other permanent consultant paediatricians in the Department do not have a special interest qualification in allergy service provision.
Parents with children on the waiting list have been told that referrals will be sent back to the original referring GP for evaluation and further follow-up as necessary.
The letter concludes that it is not envisaged that the specialist services will recommence in St Luke’s Hospital for the foreseeable future.
