In November, 2011 I had the great pleasure of finally getting Barry Ennis in to the studio. We’d spoken about his appearing on the People In Profile show on a number of occasions but circumstances had always intervened, usually another gig or idea that Barry was chasing up…
We sat down during the week and my normal routine would be to discuss what we might talk about on the show and the choice of music. All Barry wanted to do was talk about which songs he’d picked, which ones he’d have to leave out and the reasons behind each and the gigs he’s been involved in bringing up to that point. As for chatting in advance, he was having none of it…”Ask me anything”, he said and he meant it. So we simply went in to the studio and switched on the mic.
As you’ll hear, he was honest and fearless, not afraid to talk about his younger life and his passion for what he chose as his career was clear for all to hear. This was someone who had found their niche in life and was taking it as far as he could. He made quite an impression on people with this honesty. We received a number of texts when the show was broadcast.
What you hear is what we broadcast on the night and time ran out but I was delighted to hear the listener comments which capped off a great evening for us.
Barry will be missed by everyone who came in to contact with him… We extent our condolences to his family and his many friends. Go fíor, ní bheidh a leithéad arís ann.
