An Taoiseach Simon Harris has paid fulsome tribute to former EU Commissioner and former Kilkenny TD Phil Hogan.
On the campaign trail with local Fine Gael candidate Catherine Callaghan, at the Arboretum in Leighlinbridge yesterday, the Taoiseach said that Phil Hogan had served Carlow, Kilkenny and the country well.
When asked about Hogan’s role in the campaign, the Taoiseach had the following to say: “So Phil is a friend of mine and he’s somebody who has served Kilkenny and Carlow very well and served Ireland very well and Fianna Gael”
“Phil obviously isn’t directly involved in politics anymore, but he is somebody who continues to provide, help and advice to our party and I very much value that”.
“I don’t think he’s looking for any other political role at all, but he’s someone who served Ireland, I think really well and I know there is a lot of pride in Kilkenny, for the contribution that he’s made”.
