A planning application has been lodged with Kilkenny County Council for a major new solar farm across six townlands on the Kilkenny / Waterford border.
The Drumdowney Solar Farm Limited development, if realised, will cover around 35 hectares at Luffany, Murtaghstown, Curraghmore, Rathpatrick, Ballinlaw and Drumdowney Upper.
Plans include ground-mounted solar panels, battery energy storage units, inverter stations, underground cabling, access tracks and associated infrastructure.
The developer is seeking a ten-year planning permission to construct the project, with the solar farm intended to operate for up to forty years once completed.
A Natura Impact Statement has been submitted with the application to assess any potential effects on protected habitats, while the project would connect to a separate proposed electricity substation and grid connection already before An Coimisiún Pleanála.
Kilkenny County Council will consider the application with a decision due by the 2nd of August.
