Protesters have taken to the streets of Kilkenny again over immigration concerns.
Supporters of ‘Kilkenny Says No’ gathered at the Town Hall yesterday evening while ‘Kilkenny For All’ held a family friendly event welcoming all nationalities on the Parade
Gardai were present at the events and say they were quiet with no issues to report.
Aoife O’Brien from ‘Kilkenny for All’ had this message,
“Nobody has to have a justification for choosing where they live. The people are welcoming in Kilkenny because they want to live here. There is no narrative that you are only welcome here if. Kilkenny is a welcoming place and we welcome everybody.”
Meanwhile, the Irish Freedom Party’s Luke O’Connor was at the ‘Kilkenny Says No’ protest. He told KCLR news local people are driving this protest…
“We’re delighted with the turnout, we’re delighted with the support. What we’ve seen all week is local residents, especially supporting the people who are coming out to support them and that’s the main thing.
What we’re seeing is that it’s actually local people who are powering this, it’s not me, Stephen Delaney’s done great work in getting people out, but it’s actually the local people who are driving it and we’re happy to be
here supporting them and I suppose that’s the main thing.”
