A public meeting has been called for tonight to discuss traffic and road safety issues at the Royal Oak junction on the main Carlow-Kilkenny road.

Bollards were installed at the busy junction last week but locals complained of tailbacks and chaos since.

Now it has emerged some of the bollards are to be removed at the turn off for Kilkenny with new kerbing and road markings to be introduced instead.

Councillor Arthur McDonald has welcomed the developments but says it’s not the ultimate solution for the problems there.

As of this morning a number of the bollards have already been removed.

Tonight’s public meeting is in Matty’s at 7.30pm.
