The longstanding Springhill Hotel has reopened following a €10million transformation.
The business on the Waterford Road, just off the Ring Road around Kilkenny city, has served visitors and the people of the city and county for many decades – most recently it provided accommodation for many who fled the war in Ukraine.
Part of the McAuliffe Collection portfolio since 2015, its new look is pitched to see it as a ‘reimagined, bright and airy, stylish modern venue’ which presents a ‘more streamlined and sophisticated style’. (See the photo gallery below).
The recent investment increases the hotel’s total capacity to 132 guest rooms; the original 85 have undergone high-spec upgrades while the structural expansion added 47 more.
In addition, the property now has designated dog-friendly rooms for those who like to travel with their pooch.
Also enhanced are the layout of the premises’ public areas; Reception & Lobby, Paddock’s Bar, conference spaces and gym facility.
Up to 60 new local jobs are understood to have been created there, across various departments.
Owner Xavier McAullife says; “This opening marks a completely new chapter for the property, the €10 million investment has allowed us to entirely reimagine the old hotel and build a sustainable, design-forward venue from the ground up. Together with the dedicated team at the hotel, we are looking forward to welcoming weekend tour groups, corporate travellers, or locals coming into the Paddocks for lunch, the goal was to create a bright, stylish, and comfortable space that complements Kilkenny’s vibrant hospitality scene.”
