Dairy farmers are warning that consumers will face higher prices for milk, cheese, and butter due to a significant spike in production costs. Denis Drennan, President of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association, explained that factors such as the rising cost of living, labour, and other expenses have made it impossible for farmers to absorb the increased costs any longer.
Irish dairy cows produce over eight billion liters of milk annually, but wholesale dairy production costs have surged by nearly 20% over the past year. As a result, dairy products are expected to become more expensive for consumers.
Mr Drennan told KCLR News that “Farmers must find a way to recover these rising costs, particularly as labour and other inputs have seen substantial increases in recent years.”
He emphasized that all these factors contribute to the higher price of milk, butter, and beef.
