Risk of water restrictions for Carlow as supplies come under pressure

One plant had to be shut down overnight

Homes in Carlow may be facing restrictions if they don’t conserve water over the coming days.

That’s the warning from Irish Water today as 2 local supplies in particular come under pressure.

The Sion Cross treatment plant had to be shut down overnight while demand on the scheme at Raheenleigh is exceeding production in recent days.

They’re putting it down to a high demand combined with an increase in leaks and bursts due to the extreme weather.

A close eye is being kept on the levels and while they haven’t had to introduce any restrictions on water so far there is a chance that might happen to allow reservoirs to refill.

The message is to conserve your water usage and check for any leaks on your property.
