Road Safety Campaigners Call for Real-Time Data on Disqualified Drivers

Road safety campaigners are urging the Government to implement real-time access to information on disqualified drivers at checkpoints, following a sharp increase in unlicensed vehicles on the roads.

Starting Monday, new provisions will require insurance companies to provide driver numbers, which will be cross-checked with Department of Transport records to ensure all documentation is valid. This move aims to strengthen road safety and reduce the number of uninsured and disqualified drivers.

Recent figures show a concerning 67% rise in the number of cars being seized for being driven without insurance, highlighting the need for more effective enforcement measures. Campaigners believe that real-time data access will help authorities take immediate action against offenders and prevent further incidents.

The introduction of this system is seen as a crucial step toward improving road safety and ensuring that drivers are properly insured and qualified to be on the road.
