Remembrance Trees in Carlow and Kilkenny are awaiting your contributions.
Set up by Rotary members in each county, the fundraiser for local charities is used to mark the lives of loved ones no longer with us.
Today (Thursday, 19th December) and tomorrow (Friday, 20th December) the Kilkenny team will be at SuperValu Newpark in the city, moving over to SuperValu Loughboy on Saturday (21st December) while there’ll also be collections close to their festive tree on The Parade that day too.
They’re raising money for Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre and the Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team, with a portion held for the Rotary Foundation, and in return you get to add a card with details of the person in whose name donated and they’ll be included in a special ceremony on Christmas Eve.
While in Carlow the UNUM sponsored tree on Barrack Street is staffed by volunteers from 11am to 5pm up until Christmas Eve who will help place memorial ribbons and accept donations.
Their crew are out at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre today (Thursday) & tomorrow (Friday) from 5pm – 9pm raising funds in support of Éist Cancer Support, St Vincent de Paul, Delta Centre Carlow and Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s local facility Bethany House.
You can also support online here.
Ribbons will be blessed in Carlow Cathedral on January 19th 2025 at 10.30am with prayers offered for the intentions of all on the ribbons.
“We’re very proud to be involved again with this great community remembrance initiative,” says Padraig O’Neill, Director at Unum Ireland. “At this time of year, it is especially important to remember loved ones and those around us. The Rotary Remembrance Tree provides a central place in our community to do this.”
