The Rural Transport Minister is set to address a Transport Seminar in Kilkenny today.
Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State at the Department of Rural & Community Development and the Gaeltacht, is among attendees for The Bus Is Coming which has been organised by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership.
There, results of the Lingaun Loop pilot will be outlined with details too re other rural and EU transport initiatives.
Local LEADER CEO Declan Rice says “We need to come up with rural transport initiatives that improve the serious lack of mobility for rural residents, and we’re delighted that Minister Buttimer, who has responsibility for rural transport, is joining us.
He adds; “The motivation behind the Lingaun Loop Research Action Project was two-fold – to demonstrate that you could successfully operate an orbital bus service that would link up with other conventional, fixed services, and that you could do it in a rural area and help rural tourism and rural mobility.
“We are very happy with what the Lingaun Loop achieved. We’ve learnt a lot and this event will allow us to share our findings with others.”
