Schools return as Ophelia clean-up continues across Carlow and Kilkenny

Most local schools have re-opened this morning after being shut since last Friday
Inistioge national school is an exception where a tree fell on power lines outside.
School buses were back running too.
Meanwhile efforts are continuing to get power and water back for people across Carlow and Kilkenny.
Denis Cambridge of ESB networks says there’s still about 2,500 homes in the area without power and they are working on getting that restored.
The local areas where a large amount of customers are still in the dark include Graiguenamanagh with up to 950 affected, parts of Bagenalstown where there’s around 250 still out, parts of Pollerton where there’s around 230
Kilkenny city MacDonagh station area with up to 200 affected, there’s 170 in Talbots Inch and around 150 still in the Castlecomer area.
Elsewhere Kilkenny county council says the Norelands road in Stoneyford will be closed all day today Wednesday the 18th October to facilitate tree removal.
No access will be permitted past the Norelands stud.
