Shops in Carlow Shopping Centre facing rent hikes because Penneys have moved in

Shops in Carlow Shopping Centre are facing a rent hike now that Penneys have moved in.

Just days before the new anchor tenants arrived last week the other units got a letter telling them to expect a rent increase.

Landlord Gwynne Thomas told KCLR that tenants of the shopping centre had “subsidised rents” during the period when there was no anchor in Carlow shopping centre.

However, he says now that there is an anchor tenant, retailers “have to go back to market rent”.
