South Kilkenny mansion goes on the market for €17.5 million

A South Kilkenny mansion has gone on market for €17.5 million.
Castletown Cox in Piltown is currently owned by a retired banker and former chairman of the British Conservative Party, Lord George Magan, who purchased it in 1999.
Local historian, Mary O’Shea told KCLR the building has a history spanning almost 300 years having been originally built by a local clergy man:
“Bishop Cox, the protestant bishop of Ossory – he lived a very extravagant lifestyle. He didn’t do much ministering to the sick or anything, he had a curate.
He lived in this estate with over 500 acres and this massive house.
The original idea was to build a big church and not a big house, but he built a smaller church and a massive big house!”
