The amalgamation of two primary schools in a south Kilkenny village is a step closer.
Planning permission’s been granted by the county council for works at St Senan’s Senior National School in Kilmacow in preparation for it to house the pupils of St Senan’s Junior National School who are currently educated in a building about half a mile away.
The development which has just been green-lit will include the construction of a one and two-storey extension with a total floor area of 1,019m² comprising four classrooms, two SET rooms, one plant room and a two classroom SEN Unit with its own soft play area, sensory garden and six parking spaces accessed off the existing main car park.
Added to that are alterations to an existing classroom with a total floor area of 102m² to form a new main entrance and associated offices, the demolition of a prefabricated classroom and a store with a total floor area of 61m², the installation of solar PV panels on the existing roof, an air source heat pump and other site works.
