St Luke’s Hospital underfunded for the pressure it’s under says local GP

St Luke’s Hospital for Carlow/Kilkenny is the 10th busiest hospital in the country, but is number 18 on the list when it comes to funding.

That’s according to Dr Ronan Fawsitt who says the hospital is underfunded for the amount of pressure it’s under.

The figures for February show that the number of medical patients was up nearly 9% while the number of sugical patients increased by almost 7%.

Speaking on The Way It Is this week, Dr Fawsitt – who’s PRO of the College of General Practitioners – says St Luke’s is still one of the highest performing hospitals in the country.

And he says more money needs to be spent to stop people from having to present at hospitals in the first place.
